ENFORCEMENT ACTION-HIGHLAND LAKE

The Town of Highland received multiple complaints from concerned residents regarding the unsafe conditions at a property located in the hamlet of Highland Lake, and immediately commenced an investigation. The initial inspection yielded numerous life safety hazards present in the usage of the property at Carmine Lane.

As a result of critical New York State Fire and Building Code violations and violations of the Town of Highland Building Codes, which came to light as a result of inspections by representatives of the Town of Highland Code Enforcement and Building  Dept., the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Department of Health (DOH), and New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC),  it was necessary to issue Orders to Vacate the premises at Carmine Lane in the Town of Highland, Sullivan County, NY on July 12, 2023. The property was in use as an unpermitted, unsafe summer camp for young boys.

Attached is the list of violations that were found at the premises which required immediate action by all of the agencies involved to protect the health and safety of the youngsters and their caretakers at that location.

The Town of Highland wishes to thank the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, New York State DOH, NYSEG, the New York State DEC, Fusco Engineering, and all of those who assisted and gave immediate attention to resolving critical health and safety issues and prevented catastrophic outcomes for the vulnerable youth.
