Commemorative Event

Town of Highland Completes SULLIVAN 180 RIVER ACCESS SILVER FEATHER GRANT

BARRYVILLE, NY)-TOWN OF HIGHLAND will commemorate the completion of their SULLIVAN 180 RIVER ACCESS SILVER FEATHER GRANT on October 28th, 2025 at 3pm at the Eagle Observation, formerly the home of the Barbara Yeaman Eagle Observatory, just southeast of the Roebling Bridge.

The project was first introduced by John Pizzolato, the current Supervisor and former chairman of the Upper Delaware Scenic Byway in 2021.  The Delaware Company,  Greater Barryville Chamber of Commerce, the Sullivan County Planning Department, National Park Service,  The Upper Delaware Scenic Byway, DEC, and the Town of Highland all acted as partners in the project.  The goal was to highlight River Access along the Delaware River,  to share the stories of the rich history and origins of the area, and also highlight the establishment of the economic drivers that put the Town of Highland on the map during the industrial revolution.

“I took several projects that were in the works with various organizations and presented it to the Town to apply for the very generous municipal grant from Sullivan 180.  Dorene Warner from the Greater Barryville Chamber of Commerce always wanted to put a mural where a lot of blacktop was prominent around the Christmas Tree in the cul de sac in Barryville, the county was already hard at work on the DEC Access, neighbors in town were trying to make sense of the green space donated by Aaron Robinson on River Road, and the Delaware Company had already begun work on the Kate Project.”

Part of that project included the activity path connects the Eagle Observation area to the Roebling Bridge and historic Tow Path and along the River.

Perhaps the most meaningful partner outside of Sullivan 180 and the Delaware Company, was the Town of Highland Highway Department.  They installed all of the signage (conceptualized by Dorene Warner and Nicole Camacho, with text by Laura Silverman, paved the activity path, sealed the cul de sac, and so much more.

Guests are invited to attend a short reception with speakers, Shannon Cilento from Sullivan Renaissance, Town of Highland Supervisor John Pizzolato, and Sullivan County Historian and President of the Delaware Company, John Conway, and Executive Director of the Delaware Company and Town Historian, Debra Conway.
